Groundbreaking on a new 400-seat wedding chapel and event center was held Wednesday morning.

The Brooks at Weatherford, on West Lake Drive just east of FM Road 730, was designed by San Antonio architect Steve Heflin, who recently moved to the area with his wife, Tricia, to be closer to their daughter and three grandchildren. Steve Heflin said this is something the couple has prayed about for the last three years.

“We were looking for a (home) the last nine or 10 months with a lot of trees and a place with an old, charming home,” Heflin said. “We found the area and loved it.”

The 21-acre facility will host a chapel that can seat 275 people indoors but, by raising the curtain walls on nicer days, can be expanded to seat around 400. A separate reception area is a short walk across the property.

The Heflin’s 115-year-old home sits in the back and was once the home of Parker County Precinct 2 Commissioner Craig Peacock’s grandparents. Construction is expected to be complete sometime this fall.
