For the first time, the Weatherford Little League is doing its part to honor Armed Forces with a public tribute event Saturday.
What started out as an idea for a simple tribute will know be an all-afternoon party and award ceremony, thanks for organizer John Rapcoch, an umpire with the league.
“It began as a small thing with me approaching the board of directors and asking why we haven’t done something like this,” Rapcoch said.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., WLL’s Carmichael Field will be alive with groups such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Army, Marines and Gold Star Families.
An awards ceremony will take place at 1 p.m., where the Jack Knight Award, named after the Weatheford veteran who received the Medal of Honor, will be awarded to a current or past military member who has been most active within Weatherford Little League. The award will be presented by Knight’s sister.
