Wreck fatal

Head-on collision starts fire

WEATHERFORD — A head-on collision on Zion Hill Road north of Adair Lane around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, started a fire and appeared to result in at least one fatality.

A witness said an orange car was passing vehicles while traveling northbound on Zion Hill Road when it appeared to collide head-on with a southbound white pickup truck.

The car ended up upside down on the west side of the road, front to front with the truck.

The witness said the truck appeared to catch fire and they were trying to free the man in the pickup when the fire spread along the dry grass.

He and others tried to remove two young people trapped inside the car and put out the grass fire, but they were unable to save them, he said.

The man was removed from the truck, reportedly conscious, and flown by helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

The witness said the driver was badly burned.

The top of the truck appeared to have been cut off while a blue tarp covered the side of the car following the wreck.

One helicopter responded to the scene.

Fire departments, including Peaster, Weatherford and Greenwood, responded to help with the wreck and the fire, which quickly spread west and north through a field and trees.

Firefighting apparatus was still arriving to help at the scene around 8:45 p.m.

Further information was unavailable around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
