First Baptist Church of Dennis to host benefit concert

This Sunday, Memorial Day Weekend, the First Baptist Church of Dennis will be hosting a free concert to benefit Grace House Ministries.

The concert will feature a local group, The Country Boys, and will include providing an opportunity to financially support Grace House.

The evening’s events will begin at 6 p.m. with a free hamburger and hot dog supper at the church, followed by the concert at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The Country Boys are a local trio that has performed around the state for over 38 years. This will be their third annual appearance at First Baptist of Dennis.

Their unique sound with live instrumentation and rich, three-part harmonies has entertained audiences of all ages from school groups to church groups, to civic clubs, to local concert halls and beyond. The group recently sang at a private dinner event at Cowboys Stadium, and were chosen last season, and again this season, to sing the National Anthem at a Texas Rangers baseball game. Their wide and varied repertoire includes some “golden oldies,” gospel favorites, contemporary Christian tunes and progressive country standards.

With a vision for reaching women experiencing unexpected pregnancy, Grace House Ministries Inc. was established in 1993. In 2004, the ministry added an additional dimension to its work. It began teaching Scott and White Hospital’s school abstinence program in five school districts. To this day, it continues to be a vital component of the ministry, reaching students before making risky sexual decisions.

Options Clinic was opened in 2007, offering pregnancy testing and limited ultrasound technology. Its staff assists clients in making life-affirming choices, offering current, accurate and vital information on pregnancy, abortion, adoption, parenting and sexually transmitted diseases. Grace House Pregnancy Center relocated to 1708 Bethel in 2009. The center became the education arm of the ministry, providing group classes in pregnancy, parenting, life skills, and spiritual guidance.

  • AgriLife to offer parenting classes Aug. 19, 21

    The Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Parker County will offer parenting classes on Aug. 19 and 21, 2014, at the Parker County Agricultural Services Center. The classes will be from 1-5 p.m. each day and will include lunch. The cost to attend the class is $10 per person for the two-day class. Scholarships are available.

    WEATHERFORD – CASA Hope for Children of Parker and Palo Pinto County has just been awarded certification by the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association. This certification recognizes that CASA Hope for Children is in compliance with National CASA’s high standards for quality child advocacy.
