At a special called meeting of the Weatherford College Board of Trustees, the board approved Fort-Worth based Steele & Freeman, Inc. as the construction manager at-risk for the construction phase of the new Health Science Building.
Construction of the new 31,000-square-foot building, of which Steele & Freeman guaranteed a $4.9 million construction cost, should begin in mid-summer, after the demolition of the two existing older buildings on the site. Completion date is expected to be May of 2014.
“This new building will enable us to consolidate our allied health programs under one roof,” said Dr. Kevin Eaton. “WC has some of the best programs in the state, and now the students will have state-of-the-art facilities in which to learn.”
Additionally, the trustees certified the returns for two newly-elected trustees and voted to accept the official Canvass Report.
Mac Smith, local attorney, and Don Allen, president of the Jerry Durant Auto Group, will take their places on the board at a special swearing-in ceremony May 29.
Also, the board approved a motion to donate surplus classroom and office furnishings and equipment to the school districts in West, Texas, and Moore, Okla., as needed and wanted, and to dispose of left-over materials in the usual manner – auction, sale, recycling.
