Registration for swim lessons begin Friday.
Weatherford Athletics and Aquatics Manger Tyler Sievert and his lifeguards are busily gearing up for another full season at the Cherry Park Pool. Registration will begin, for Weatherford residents only, Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at city hall, 303 Palo Pinto St.
Those providing proof of residency (a city utility bill and a valid driver’s license with a matching address) will receive a discounted rate of $40 per child. Lessons are normally $52, according to a press release.
Sievert said anyone who has a specific time they need for lessons may want to consider getting in line early.
“Last year was the first year we did it at the main City Hall building, and we were able to expedite people through much more quickly because of the better set up, and access to computerized receipts,” Sievert stated in an e-mail. “Friday night, the first few people started lining up around 4 (p.m.), but about 20 minutes or so before the doors opened there were only roughly 40-60 people waiting for the opening. Saturday morning I would estimate there was about the same response. So, it wouldn’t hurt if you are wanting/needed to get an exact lesson (date range/time slot); however, we do offer a wide range of dates and times, so if the person is not picky, they probably don’t need to show up early.”
Open registration is scheduled 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at city hall, with the line beginning on the south side.
Sievert recommends having more than one choice of dates. Due to high demand, all participants may only register for one session. All non-filled sessions will open for multiple registrations beginning June 10.
Classes will be broken up into preschool for ages three to five and elementary for ages 6 to 12. Four two-week sessions begin June 3 and run through Aug. 1. Forty-minute lessons will be offered six times a day Monday through Thursday with Friday used as a makeup day in case of inclement weather with morning, late afternoon and early evening sessions offered.
Two sessions of five Saturday morning classes will be offered for children from 18 months to 3 years old and for adult beginners age 13 and older.
For those unable to make the weekend sign ups, registration will continue at the Parks and Recreation office, 119 Palo Pinto St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until full. For information, call 817-598-4124.
