WC baseball coach arrested last month on DWI charge

From Staff Reports

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper last month arrested Weatherford College baseball coach Jeffrey Lightfoot, 43, on a charge of first offense DWI.

Trooper Derek Peterson reportedly pulled over Lightfoot on Interstate 20 in Willow Park around 1 a.m. Sept. 27 after observing him speeding, failing to signal a lane change and weaving within his lane, according to DPS.

The trooper reported observing that Lightfoot had slow, unsure movements, watery bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his breath.

Lightfoot advised that he was coming from a golf tournament and a restaurant and admitted to consuming alcohol, according to the trooper’s probable cause statement.

Lightfoot failed a field sobriety test and a breath test showed a blood-alcohol content level of 0.133 percent, according to the probable cause affidavit.

After being arrested and read a statutory DWI warning, Lightfoot refused to provide a specimen of blood or breath, Peterson wrote.

Lightfoot was released later that day on $1,000 bond.

The case had not been sent to the Parker County Attorney’s Office as of Tuesday.

Lightfoot has been a coach for Weatherford College since 2002 and remained employed in his position Tuesday.

“The college does have policies regarding the notification of an employee’s immediate supervisor upon certain legal action as well as policies regarding employee discipline,” Brent Baker, Weatherford College spokesman, said. “The college and the employee have followed all legal and local policies in response to this situation. The college, by law, cannot comment any further on this situation.”
