TOTS auditions for upcoming play

Theatre Off The Square has announced upcoming auditions for the play “Rex’s Exes.”

This long-awaited, much-anticipated sequel to “The Red Velvet Cake War” finds us returning to the arms of the Verdeen cousins of Sweetgum, Texas, who as usual, are teetering on the brink of disaster.

As the outrageous complications of this ferociously funny Jones-Hope-Wooten comedy explode into chaos, you’ll find yourself hoping your next family celebration – be it birthday, wedding or funeral – is even half this much fun!

Characters and their ages for this play are: Cee Cee Windham, hostess of a low budget local cable access TV show, 40-50; Gaynelle Verdeen, a cousin who is about to celebrate the “big 5-0”; Jimmy Wyvette Verdeen, a cousin and owner of a new business “Wide Bride,”    40s; Peaches Verdeen Belrose, a cousin and most glamorous mortuary cosmetologist in Texas, late 40s; La Merle Verdeen Minshew, their aunt, late 60s-70; Aubrey Verdeen, their uncle, late 80s; Bitsy Hargis, a neighbor, late 40s; Theodore Rexford Belrose, Peaches’ “former husband” missing eight years, 50s; Gentle Harmony, mystic, psychic, 40s-50; Mama Doll Hargis, Bitsy’s mother, 80s-120; Marlissa Crutchfield; “Third Lady” of Texas, 40s; and Wild Bill Boudreaux, Cajun bounty hunter, 40s-50.

Auditions are 6:30 p.m. Nov. 11 and Nov. 12 with call backs on Nov. 13, also at 6:30 p.m., in the green room at Theatre Off The Square, 114 N. Denton St., in Weatherford.

Rehearsals begin Dec. 16 and will normally be held Mondays through Thursdays. Allowances will be made for the holidays. Production dates are Jan. 31, Feb. 1-2, Feb. 7-9 and Feb. 14-16.

Curtain time is 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

In June, there were seven students who explored the flora and fauna of the rainforest through music at The Burch School of Music. Each child made his or her own rain stick, along with other crafts and art work. For two hours each day for five days, students explored a different level of the rainforest, starting with the emergent layer at the top, moving through the canopy, the understory, the forest floor and the rivers. They let bats fly (black balloons) and were eaten by a boa constrictor. On the last day they dressed as natives and drummed together.
