Couple wins Charter’s promotional cruise

By BRIAN SMITH

If it’s too good to be true, it probably is, the adage states. In Don and Nancy Taylor’s case, the too good proved to be all too true recently.

The Taylors, who have been Weatherford residents since 1988, were notified a few weeks ago that they were winners of Charter Communication’s monthly “Live it With Charter” sweepstakes for June. Linda To, who works in Charter’s regional marketing department said she left messages about the couple winning an all-expense-paid cruise on Norwegian Cruise Lines with both Taylors only to get no response.

Nancy Taylor was admittedly skeptical after hearing the message and wanted her daughter, an attorney, to check things out first.

“We got told we won this trip but how often do people hear that only to find out it’s a scam?” Nancy Taylor said. “I contacted my daughter the lawyer and had her check it out and she told me it was legitimate.”

Once the couple found out the contest was legitimate, they were ecstatic. They were informed Tuesday that their trip includes airfare and can be taken anytime within the next 12 months.

The Taylors took part in Charter’s rewards program, which allows them to accrue points over time which can be held on to or turned into sweepstakes entries, according to Brian Anderson, regional communications director — Southwest. Anderson said this is the first time someone from Texas has won the monthly grand prize.

“This is a great opportunity for us,” Anderson said. “To see a neighbor win in Texas is just icing on the cake.”

Don Taylor, who works for a national trucking company, said the couple have been customers with Charter when it was known as Sammons Cable. The couple said they were unsure when they would be taking their cruise but were excited about it.

“I’m definitely a believer now,” Nancy Taylor said.
