Count of area homeless youth begins Monday

Weatherford Democrat

— ACH Child and Family Services, Tarrant County Homeless Coalition, Crossroads Youth Ministries of Parker County and University of Texas-Arlington are conducting the first ever youth count in Tarrant and Parker counties for unaccompanied youth, ages 13-24, in unstable living arrangements (i.e., shelters, streets, couch surfing).

The effort seeks to provide more detailed and reliable information to all the agencies that serve the youth within that age range.

“All of us that provide services and programs to these young people are always looking for reliable and complete data, which is not always readily available,” explained Carla Storey, senior director of residential services at ACH Child and Family Services, a nonprofit agency dedicated to providing programs and services to children and families in Tarrant and surrounding counties.

The youth count will focus on unaccompanied youth living in emergency shelters, transitional housing, doubled-up with a friend or family member, couch surfing, on the streets, encampments or places not meant for housing.

The count will take place March 10-14. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/groups/tcpcyc or contact Carla Storey at cstorey@ACHservices.org or call 817-886-7128.
