By BRIAN SMITH

The Weatherford Public Library is offering several events for kids and parents during this week’s spring break.

On Monday, kids with art in their blood can take part in Artsstravaganza. Two separate sessions offer experiences for different age groups. From 11 a.m. to noon, kids in grades one to three will become portrait artists during “The Big Picture.” From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., children in grades four through six will explore the limits of their imagination in a craft program that brings steampunk flair to bugs of all kinds during “Professor D’s Incredible Mechanical Insects.”

Tuesday is “Wacky Science Day” with two one-hour sessions offering experiments appropriate to different ages. From 11 a.m. to noon, kids in grades one to three will explore the life cycles of plants with the hands-on workshop, “Green Thumbs Inc.” From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., children in grades four through six will delve into history to learn about the science of mummification in “Mummies ‘R Us.”

Toddlers and preschoolers will be able to learn about music their parents. and even grandparents. grew up to during the “Spring Break Sock Hop.” Children ages birth to 7 and their parents can cut a rug to the coolest tunes from the ‘50s from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Also on Wednesday, kids in grades four through six are the storytellers in “Fractured Fairy Tale Theatre” from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Brought back for a second year because of its popularity, this improvisational theatre workshop is just the thing for kids who like fairy tales with a twist.

The weeklong event wouldn’t be complete without a movie day on Thursday. Animated kids films will be shown at 10:30 and 2 p.m.
