VBA to compete in national competition

Submitted by CARMAN PETERSON

Students from Victory Baptist Academy in Weatherford will compete against more than 2,000 students from across the country in the upcoming American Association of Christian Schools National Competition, held April 8-10 in Greenville, S.C.

VBA students qualified for the national competition by finishing in the top tier of state competitions, held March 7 in Pittsburg, Texas.

In the senior high division, Victory came in first in the readers theater competition and will compete with their winning selection, an excerpt from “The Hobbit,” at nationals. A group from VBA also finished in third place in the same category with a selection from “Anne of Green Gables.”

Victory’s small instrument ensemble, which came in first place in the state competition, will move on to nationals, as will the choric speaking group and choral group, which both came in second place in state.

In the individual categories, freshman Daniel Antoine will advance to the national competition in classical piano solo, where he came in second place. Freshman Catie Odom finished third in sacred piano solo.

Senior Jordan Herndon came in first place in the spelling bee and will advance to the national level. He also placed first in the Algebra II and advanced math tests. Freshman Daisy Graham, who came in second place in the spelling bee, earned first place in the expository essay competition and will compete in that category in nationals. Graham also finished second in the Algebra I test.

Alexis Holloway came in third place in the expository essay.

Sophomore Robbie Catuto took first place in the biology test, where he will move on to the national competition, as well as third place in the English test. Chenisse Squire finished second in the biology test and Jesse Herndon rounded out the top three for VBA in that category.
