WCS holding fundraiser for gym

Weatherford Democrat

— Weatherford Christian School recently accepted a gift to put them one step closer to finishing the Greg Welch Gymnasium, located at the secondary campus at 2300 Ranger Highway.

A local resident and avid car collector donated a completely restored 1955 Chevy half-ton short bed truck, valued at more than $20,000, to be raffled off at WCS’ outdoor concert and car show May 23.

The concert and car show will help raise funds to complete the new gymnasium, which was built in remembrance of Staci Lee, Mandi McWhorter, Lacey Osina and Whitney Welch.

May’s fundraiser, which features Texas country musician Aaron Watson and opening acts from Garrett Bradford and Wynn Williams, offers viewers a glimpse at several classic cars, most provided by the Parker County Cruisers and other local car collectors. There will also be booths from local vendors, a children’s play area, and barbecue sandwiches provided by Mesquite Pit.

Tickets for general admission for ages 13 and up are $25. Tickets for children 12 and under can get in free with a canned food item for Center of Hope, or $10 otherwise.

Raffle tickets for the Chevy truck are currently on sale for $50 each at both Weatherford Christian School campuses, First National Bank and various other locations between now and May 23.

Sponsorships and vendor booths are still available but are filling up quickly.

Event sponsors include Chicken Express, IAS Logistics, Bryant Grain Company, Scott Welch Family, LLC, Polaris Services, LLC, Rangaire Mfg., Tuffy’s Air Conditioning and Heating Service, Plains Capital Bank, Jeff and Margaret McCoy — Diamond M Ranch, Texas Tire Sales, Chemical Weed Control, Select Energy, Slick Rock LP, Welch Ranches and the NCHA.
