Former, current WCS students set rank for 2013 youth cutting

Being involved in the cutting horse industry and attending classes at Weatherford Christian School has gone hand-in-hand for many of the school’s students in the past but two ladies in general both former and current have set the rank for those to follow in the future. 

Former WCS student, Shannon McCoy, could not have finished the summer on a higher note within the cutting horse world. The 19-year-old daughter of Margaret and Jeff McCoy has been showing horses for 10 years and clinched the 2013 Senior Youth Champion on her horse, Pepcorn, at this year’s NCHA Summer Spectacular in Fort Worth at the Will Rogers Coliseum.

She is currently ranked first out of 15 in the Senior Youth division with 193 points from 63 shows. Shannon has also been named the 2013 recipient of the Joseph Broderick Beaver Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship awards Shannon $10,000 towards the continuation of her education at the college or university of her choice, which in this case is Texas Christian University, where she enrolled this fall. 

Shannon’s travel partner, Sheridan Clark, an eighth grader at Weatherford Christian School, is also making her mark this year on the cutting horse world and hopes to follow in her friend’s footsteps. Sheridan, daughter of Jason and Becky Clark, is currently sitting fourth out of the top 15 in the 2013 Junior Youth division with 79 points in 23 shows. She was the Reserve Champion on Special Nu Kitty at this year’s Scholarship Cutting as well as finishing fourth with a 227 on consecutive nights at the Top 15 World Finals on Wood Ya Wanna. 

Weatherford Christian School is proud of both these young ladies and their incredible accolades within the cutting horse industry. They have made the mark and set the rank for others to follow because of hard work and dedication and we look forward to seeing what they will accomplish next.

    ST. LOUIS — Johnathon Taylor Soulis, of Weatherford, was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2014 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. Soulis is enrolled in the university’s School of Engineering and Applied Science.

  • Driver speed, seatbelt compliance surveys show improvements

    The Weatherford Police Department utilized grant funding from the Texas Department of Transportation to fund overtime salaries for extra enforcement during the week of the Fourth of July. The extra patrols worked to ensure drivers were complying with posted speed limits, wearing seatbelts and were not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in an effort to keep our local roadways safe.
