First organized on the fifth Sunday in May 1858, Newberry Church will celebrate its 145th year of continuously holding worship services.

The Sept. 22 service will take place at 10:30 a.m. under the Tabernacle – which was built in 1902 – and a luncheon will follow in the Doss Fellowship Hall. The church will furnish barbecue, attendees are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert and a copy of their favorite recipe for the new edition of the Newberry community cookbook.

Just west of the railroad underpass on U.S. Highway 180 between Weatherford and Mineral Wells, turn south onto Newberry Road and travel approximately 1 mile south to the church.
