Nationally known dementia researcher to give program

Dr. James Hall to present ‘Understanding Different Types of Dementia’

The North Central Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association is sponsoring a free workshop on Thursday, Sept. 5, entitled “Understanding Different Types of Dementia.”

Guest speaker will be Dr. James, Hall, PhD, FABMP. The seminar is 2-4 p.m. that day at the North Side Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 910 N. Main St., in Weatherford.

Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life.  While Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type, accounting for between 60 percent and 80 percent of all cases, there are more than 10 types of dementia. There are also other conditions that can cause symptoms of dementia, some of which are reversible.

Dr. Hall is a professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health for the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He has conducted research for the Texas Alzheimer’s Research Consortium and also been an investigator on clinical trials for new medications for Alzheimer’s disease. His major areas of clinical practice and research are dementia, depression and the assessment of cognitive change in older adults.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
