— FROM STAFF REPORTS
The National Vietnam War Museum will be the site for the Third Annual “Christmas at the Wall” and lighting of the Christmas tree this Sunday.
The event will take place beginning at 5 p.m. The museum site is located on U.S. Highway 180 in western Parker County about two miles east of Mineral Wells, just west of the pedestrian bridge at Maddux Road. The event is free and open to the public.
The National Vietnam War Museum features a half-sized replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall, which is updated as necessary, a replica of the Camp Holloway Wall, several gardens, a visitor’s center and several static displays including an armored personnel carrier and a UH-1 “Huey” Helicopter mounted atop a pole in flying position.
Sunday’s event will include the lighting of handheld candles, a rifle salute and the playing of “Taps.” The family of Vietnam Army veteran Tony Anguiano, of Mineral Wells, will do the honors of officially lighting the site’s Christmas tree.
Shotgun’s BBQ will be serving hot chocolate, coffee and hot tea. Several short speeches from area veterans and museum officials are also planned.
