Officer dragging suspect arrested

By CHRISTIN COYNE

A man that authorities say dragged a Springtown patrol officer with his vehicle Saturday was arrested at his home without incident Wednesday evening.

Cody Scott Sherwood, 22, has been charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault of a public servant with a deadly weapon, third-degree felony evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and third-degree felony assault family violence with a previous conviction.

Springtown Police Lt. Curtis Stone said an officer was dispatched Saturday to the 600 block of East 6th Street for a domestic between Sherwood and his father.

When the patrol officer arrived, Sherwood was found in a vehicle trying to leave, according to Stone. When the officer attempted to open the vehicle door, Sherwood "gassed it" and took off, dragging the officer a short distance before he was able to get free, Stone said.

Sherwood then reportedly drove away.

The officer had some minor injuries, Stone said.

When police served the warrants at his house Wednesday evening, Sherwood would not answer the door but officers found an open door, made entry and arrested Sherwood, according to Stone.

It’s the third arrest of the year for Sherwood, who has been arrested multiple times the past five years and served time in the Parker County Jail last year after being convicted of misdemeanor assault family violence.

Embezzlement arrest

A woman accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from an East Parker County company was arrested on a second-degree felony theft charge Wednesday.

A representative with TG Mercer Consulting Services, a pipe transportation company, contacted the Parker County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 7 and reported that Danielle Sherrie Jordan, a prior employee, had stolen over $140,000 from the company between January 2012 and October, Parker County Sheriff’s investigator Stephen Barnes wrote in a probable cause affidavit.
