MILLSAP MATTERS: Millsap Elementary students, families share meal

In Weatherford the parade will take place immediately before Christmas on the Square, which will begin at noon. At Christmas on the Square folks can visit the local merchants and there will be vendors. Also included will be live entertainment and children’s activities. Many choices for some quality family time during this special season.

Those of us in the Millsap area, as has been reported, will enjoy our Community Christmas event on Dec. 14. The city council and volunteers are focusing this whole time especially on the kids. Besides Santa, Mrs. Claus and Mickey and Minnie Mouse, other characters will be at the log cabins after the parade to greet youngsters. There will also be face painting and pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus during the evening.

The children will all have an opportunity to ride in the parade as each school class will have a float. All will center around the cabin grounds (Heritage Park) beginning at 10 a.m. with a craft bazaar, a chili cook off judging will take place at 4 p.m. and the parade will be at 5 p.m., with refreshments and festivities to follow. The committee for the event is asking that those who live on the highways coming into town consider decorating with pretty lights to welcome visitors as they come in from other areas. This is one of the many ways that our community comes together for the whole day and it is going to be outstanding, so come join us for this fun time.

When 2014 gets here it will be time to start making preparations for Income Tax. On that front the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program which helps people with their tax returns free of charge is in need of volunteers in this area. There will be five locations staffed from Feb. 1-April 15: the Weatherford Library, the Mineral Wells Boyce Ditto Library, the Mineral Wells Senior Center, the Azle Library and the Azle Senior Center. People do not have to be AARP members to volunteer and there are many volunteer opportunities.
