MILLSAP MATTERS: Millsap church reaches out

By SHARRON HUDSON

MILLSAP – Like many small towns, Millsap has some great organizations that reach out to the community in a number of ways. One such group in our town that is flourishing on this front is the Millsap First Baptist Church Food Pantry in conjunction with the Cup O’ Hope Coffee House.

With many helpful volunteers these two programs open to the public every Tuesday morning, 8:30-10 a.m. at the church. The pantry also has a clothes closet, and the workers are always busy sorting and putting up these items and the donated groceries.

Groceries that were recently given were from our local post office’s food drive. The employees picked up donated groceries from customers, and the results were wonderful with all of the goods coming to this pantry.

The food pantry volunteers thank everyone who gave and helped. It will really make a difference as with kids soon getting out of school some will need to have the breakfasts and lunches that they ate at school replaced through the pantry.

The Cup O’ Hope Coffee House is next door to the pantry and is tended to by Cindy Clark. Her vision is to provide a haven for conversation to those who are in need of a listening heart. It is to provide an open door for caring to those who are facing difficulties due to life circumstances. Mrs. Clark wants people to know that there is a place available to give hope. The atmosphere of this whole ministry is one of love and comfort. I would urge anyone who needs help or would like to donate to go by and sees these folks.

Here’s something that many people look forward to this time of year. Rothrock’s vegetable stand is open for the warm months. Barbara said that the first items will be new potatoes, zucchini and tomatoes. More items will be added as they become available, and the policy still stands that if no one is at the stand just leave the money for your purchase in the box.
