MILLSAP MATTERS: Log Cabin Days approaches

MILLSAP – With the spring temperatures, folks around here are preparing for one of the biggest yearly events that our whole community comes together around. Many plans are in the works for the Millsap Log Cabin Day Festival.

The Millsap Heritage Society is getting everything in order for the event, which will be open to the public on May 10.

After the free campfire breakfast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., the next big event of the day will be the Kiddie Tractor Pull at 10 a.m. Games for the day will include horseshoes and washers, plus there will be a Kids’ Corner with many free activities for the children.

The Sons of the Confederacy will be on the grounds, and there will be displays of antique cars, barbed wire and arrow heads. There will be cabin tours, live music, food and a myriad of booths.

To rent a booth for $20, or $25 with electricity, call 940-682-5331 or 940-353-7160. This is going to be a whole day of fun, so come join in at Heritage Park, 200 Fannin Street, in downtown Millsap.

As students move closer to the end of the school year, decisions have been made about making up days missed due to winter weather. Millsap students missed a total of seven days due to the weather.

In the district calendar the days of Monday, June 2, and Tuesday, June 3, were the two bad weather make up days. In March the school district submitted a waiver request to the Texas Education Agency to waive the five additional days missed. TEA approved the waiver, so the district will make up the two days set on the calendar.

May 27 and May 28 will be senior final exams and full school days. May 29 and May 30, which were designated on the calendar as early release and final exam days, will be full school days. Graduation is May 31. School will be in session June 2 and June 3, but these will be early release days and final exams for secondary students.
