MILLSAP MATTERS: Millsap’s annual city-wide cleanup set for Oct. 19

(Continued)

We have recently lost two area residents with the passing of Skip Carpenter and Shirley Light Yandell.  Mr. Carpenter leaves behind his wife, Helen Piperman Carpenter. He was a retired insurance agent. Mrs. Yandell’s family includes son, Michael Yandell, and daughter, Vickie Sanders, their families, and a large extended family. She had worked as an employee in civil service. Condolences to the loved ones of these two Millsap residents.

On Nov. 22, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs basketball teams will be on the court of the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Their opponents will be Bowie with the Bulldogs playing at 1 p.m. and the Lady Bulldogs to play immediately following. The players and coaches are excited to have the opportunity to play on the court of the Dallas Mavericks. That same evening at 7:30 p.m. The Mavs will take on the Utah Jazz. Tickets cost $30 each and this ticket is for all of the day’s games. You must purchase a ticket to attend the high school games. To buy tickets contact coaches Josh Jones or Ron Berry, or call (940) 682-4994. This is a wonderful opportunity for these young people, so let’s fill the arena to support the Bulldogs!

To kick off National 4H Week the Millsap Heritage Society hosted a cookout for area 4H and Clover kids. On Monday evening, Oct. 7, the youngsters and their families were treated to hot dogs that they got to cook on a bed of coals at the Log Cabin grounds. Heritage Society member Melvin Davis did a great job of teaching campfire safety, while other members helped the kids cook their wieners and marshmallows. A very informative tour of the cabins was enjoyed as a part of the event, and much appreciation goes to the Heritage Society for this well planned community service project which was enjoyed by a large group.

Monday is Columbus Day and this is a Millsap ISD student holiday, while the teachers will have staff development/ conferences with parents. Also remember that Oct. 19 is the Millsap PTO-sponsored Elementary Fall Festival from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
