MILLSAP MATTERS: Millsap’s Christmas tree lighting, celebration plans taking shape

By SHARRON HUDSON

MILLSAP – Even though we have not yet celebrated Thanksgiving, there are many plans in the works for area Christmas celebrations. Millsap’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting is shaping up very well under the direction of our city council and dedicated volunteers.

There are many facets to the celebration which will be Dec. 14 at Heritage Park, with the log cabins and city hall being opened for the happenings. Heritage Park will be the site for the craft bazaar, with vendors setting up beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a chili cook off with prizes awarded. Chili needs to be at city hall by 3:30 p.m., as it will be judged at 4 p.m. After the 5 p.m. parade, in which everyone is invited to participate, there will be complimentary refreshments of hot dogs, chili, cookies and drinks.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be greeting guests during the evening hours, as will Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The Council and Volunteers are expecting this to be the biggest year of visitors yet, so they are asking the community to bring cookies and chili. More chili than what comes from the chili cook off will be needed. Volunteers are needed for serving the refreshments and helping clean up. This is going to be a great time for everyone so plan on helping, if possible, and attending.

The City of Cool will be hosting its Second Annual Christmas Party at its Community Center on Dec. 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The city council did a great job last year of hosting with top-notch entertainment, food and lots of festive fun. The center is a place that will look great fully decorated for the season, and this city council and Cool’s citizens always offer wonderful hospitality. This is sure to be a great time of Christmas fun and many are already looking forward to it.
