MILLSAP – As we head into October things are busier than usual around Millsap, and there are many activities and events that will be taking place in the near future.

On Tuesday, a very unusual pumpkin patch will be on display at our elementary school. The gym will be transformed with pumpkins decorated as book characters.  With instructions from their teachers, students have put their imaginations to work and are the artists of this special format.

During an evening that will begin at 7 p.m. everyone will enjoy a gallery viewing of the characters, some interesting storytelling and delicious snacks. The community is invited to join in for this wonderful family activity. It’s sure to be a unique evening, and what a great way to usher in the fall season.

On Wednesday, the Millsap Neighborhood Ladies Home and Garden Club will have its monthly meeting at the Millsap Community Center. The theme for the meeting, which begins at 11 a.m., will be “Anything Pumpkin” and include a tasty lunch, some fun games and enjoyable activities. As always all ladies are welcome, and this would be a great time to begin to participate as this group always has a busy, productive schedule during the holiday season.

Saturday, Oct. 5, will be a big day for Millsap with Waldens’ Consignment Auction of farm and ranch equipment beginning at 10 a.m. on Fairview Road. This will bring with it a bake sale by the Millsap Neighborhood Ladies Home and Garden Club at the store, while the Abandoned Cemetery Association will be on the grounds selling lunch items.

What will really round the day out are the yard sales planned throughout the community.  This is an annual event that brings a lot of vitality to the area, and we want everyone to come out and enjoy it with us!

An exciting event that will be taking place happens Oct. 12, the Third Annual Ticket Lady Trot. This is to benefit the Mary Aaron Memorial Scholarship Fund. There will be a 1M fun run at 8 a.m. and a 5K at 8:30 a.m. at the Millsap High School. Registration fees are $25 for the 5K and $20 for the 1M fun run.

Participants can register online at GetMeRegistered.comTicketLadyTrot, or pick up a registration form at Millsap High School. The age group categories range from under 19-70 plus. The event needs sponsors, so to help in this way or for any info call (940) 393-6573.

Many look forward to this time to be physically active for a worthwhile cause, so glad the time is near.

The recent Newberry Church Homecoming was a much-enjoyed time with people coming from Oklahoma and Arkansas to join in on the occasion. This was the church’s 145th anniversary, thus making it one of the oldest churches in Parker County. It began with four to five families and many of these families’ descendants come in each year for homecoming.

With wonderful weather, great food and beautiful red and white decorations the Bible message of “A Blessed Day” was certainly appropriate. Plans are already in the works for next year’s anniversary with a recipe book being put together. A great day for a lot of faithful folks.

Congratulations to the Millsap VFD on being approved as a First Responder Org (FRO). This has taken a lot of planning, preparation, and training and as a community we are very proud of this accomplishment by the department.

The department started responding to EMS calls on Sept. 15, and they are excited to bring this service to our community. Thank you Millsap VFD for protecting and helping so many people in so many ways.

A reminder that the Millsap ISD community flu vaccination clinic is 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Millsap Elementary Cafetorium. It is open to everyone and for those 18 and under it is free, but the child must have a signed Parker County Hospital District consent form if the parent/guardian is not present. Medicare recipients are free, but the card must be presented. The cost is $15 to everyone else, but many insurances cover this.

Mark your calendars for Oct. 19 as this is the Millsap School fall festival.
