MILLSAP MATTERS: Early bird – annual Millsap Turkey Dinner is today

By SHARRON HUDSON

MILLSAP – The day for one of the most-anticipated yearly events in Millsap has arrived.

On Sunday, Nov. 10, there will be a multitude of folks at the Millsap Elementary Cafetorium to enjoy the Millsap Community Turkey Dinner.

With the Millsap VFD turning the event into a community effort there will remain much of the tradition surrounding the gathering, while some great new ideas have been implemented. It is exciting to have many local groups participating during this time. All are Millsap based and include the Community Support Group, high school scholarship fund, high school Beta Club, boys and girls athletic programs, Millsap High School Junior Class, FCCLA, girl scouts and First Baptist Church Food Pantry. There will be a craft fair sponsored by the FCCLA in the elementary gym during the meal.

Many are looking forward to the dessert contest, with cupcakes being added to the competition. The winning desserts will be auctioned off with these proceeds benefiting the organizations involved. The time is 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and the cost of the meal is a donation at the door. The meal will have the turkey and world famous dressing, plus all of the delicious trimmings. Come on out and have a great time while supporting this community effort.

The Cool area has suffered a great loss with the passing of Peggy Ledbetter McDonald. This well-known, beloved lady was a founding member of the Cool Assembly of God Church. She retired as a teacher from Mineral Wells ISD. She leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Clifton; sons, Richard and Russell; and daughters Marsha McDonald, Mary Thornberry and Rebekah McDonald Lee. She was a grandmother and great-grandmother many times over. Condolences to this family.

The Millsap Cemetery Association recently had its annual meeting at the city hall with standing room-only attendance. There was much discussion of new possibilities for improving the cemetery.
