MILLSAP MATTERS: The Big Kahuna Fundraiser sure to be a tasty event

Deaths of various members of the pioneer family were also discussed, and as a special remembrance the Parker County Abandoned Cemetery Association recently put up new gravemarkers at the plots of Fuller Millsaps and two of his children. The cemetery is located at the original site of the cabin that now stands in downtown Millsap. A very informative and enjoyable meeting!

The next meeting of the heritage group will be as a service project to the Garner and Millsap 4H kids. With National 4H week being Oct. 6-12, heritage members are going to host a hot dog roast at the cabin grounds for the youngsters.

4H is the nation’s largest youth development organization with more than 6 million kids. Members enjoy hands-on learning experiences in the areas of health, science and citizenship. We are privileged to have a branch of this organization in our community under the direction of Gera Bruner.

Our Millsap Elementary/Public Library has begun school year hours. Since the library is a part of the Parker County Library Association, cardholders from any of these libraries can go in to pick up or drop off materials that are from the participating libraries. To pick up or drop off materials patrons must first stop by the elementary school office. Library hours are 9-11 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Pick up and drop off day is Wednesday. It’s great to have this convenience so close to home!

It’s almost State Fair time again with the dates being Sept. 27-Oct. 20. With the reinventing of last year’s burned down Big Tex the theme will be “The One and Only.” It will be an homage to Big Tex unveiled, and fair organizers are planning a celebration befitting the sweet giant’s return.

There is also a new ride, “The Top of Texas,” with a 360-degree panoramic view of Dallas while traversing a 500-foot tower.  Many people from our parts are excitedly looking forward to attending and participating, so maybe these few details will make the anticipation all the more exciting!

It will soon be homecoming time for Millsap schools. A parade for Sept. 22 is scheduled, as well as a community pep rally during that week. Homecoming is Sept. 27. We are very proud of our Bulldogs!
