MILLSAP MATTERS: Bank plans to remain open

(Continued)

The Parker County Abandoned Cemetery Association is scheduled to meet Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m., at the Weatherford Library, 1014 Charles Street. Any person interested in helping with the preservation and maintenance of the more than 60 abandoned cemeteries in the county is invited to participate. If possible bring a mower and be prepared to work on a worthy cause with some wonderful folks.

The Poe Prairie Cemetery Association invites everyone to their annual meeting on Saturday, July 20, at 6 p.m. at the cemetery. The business meeting will start the festivities. A highlight of the event will be the dedication of a new veterans’ marker. There will be ice cream and treats with the Malt Shop supplying the ice cream. The evening will finish up with gospel singing until dark. Bring your chairs, musical instruments, and friends. Please remember that donations provide the perpetual care of this cemetery. For info on making a donation call 940-682-5331.

There is quite a bit of roadwork going on around the community of late.  The Old Millsap Highway leading into Mineral Wells is receiving some major upgrading. On July 10 work will begin on South FM Road 113, which runs between U.S. Highway 180 and Interstate 20. Please use extra care on these roads and be prepared for delays.

Our community billboard recently announced that Millsap alumna Loriann Villa was crowned Parker County Peach Festival 2013 queen. What an honor for this young lady and our town. Congratulations, Loriann!
