Parents and guardians with students in Weatherford ISD might have gotten plenty of glimpses of the district’s new website format after checking for school closings and delays over weather conditions within the last week.

Weatherford ISD unveiled its new site Nov. 26, offering users a “simple, yet stylish” format, according to WISD director of public information Derik Moore.

A website committee of seven individuals viewed a variety of other district and college websites to get an idea for what they wanted.

“The reason for redesigning was a little bit of everything,” Moore said. “Each year, there are more and more advances in technology that allow you to reach out to parents, student and faculty. We wanted to keep our information on our site easy to navigate and we went for a four-click minimum for each user.

“On our old website format, it was pretty hard to navigate. Some links wouldn’t work properly and some would take you to other websites.”

The result of the new site, provided by Edlio, is more-appealing pages, with the trademark kangaroo logo and blue and white colors present throughout, as well as more distinguished menu items for easier navigation.

“From a campus standpoint, our old campus pages weren’t really visually appealing but now, it’s all kind of integrated,” Moore said.

Staff members for each campus are listed on the school’s respective website, with a photo and contact information for each member.

“If you click on that staff member’s page, there is a button to subscribe. By doing that, you will receive a notification between 5-6 p.m. anytime that teacher updates an item, adds a calendar item or posts an assignment to her page,” Moore said.

Another beneficial resource is a more comprehensive calendar, where users can select events from one or more specific campuses or the district as a whole.

“This was extremely helpful during our recent inclement weather period,” Moore said.

One other perk of the new site is that the district is no longer the host provider, meaning site information is stored on Edlio servers as opposed to the district’s.

“That frees up a lot of bandwidth and allows us to have less issues,” Moore said.
