— A two-time world champion Elvis Presley tribute artist will thrill local Elvis fans on New Year’s night at the Texas Opry Theater in a show that is nearing another sell out.

Donny Edwards will perform his “A Tribute to Elvis” concert 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, at the downtown theater located at 315 York Ave. The concert will show why Edwards is “the top Elvis Presley tribute artist in the world,” said Steve Fountain, the concert’s promoter.

“This is the hottest Elvis show in the world,” he said. “Donny Edwards actually did a special concert in Memphis for the anniversary of Elvis’ death. He’s great.”

Edwards has been seen on numerous TV shows, including NBC’s “Next Best Thing,” among others, and he has performed with some of Presley’s original band members like drummer D.J. Fontana and members of the Jordanaires.

In 2003, Edwards was hired for the Elvis-A-Rama event in Las Vegas before taking over that event’s main Elvis role in 2005. Also in 2005, he appeared on the TV daytime serial “The Young and the Restless,” and in 2006, Edwards was hired by Elvis Enterprises to do a 50th anniversary of Presley’s show alongside members of the Jordanaires.

“This is a show people won’t want to miss,” Fountain said.

Edwards has entertained celebrities like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Marie Osmond, and he’s worked with Presley’s singing friend, Jimmy Velvet. Edwards even married his wife, Donna, in Graceland, Presley’s home, after meeting in Las Vegas.

For his Texas Opry Theater performance, Edwards will front Fever, an eight-piece band.

“The Fever band is great, too, and we’ll have (Wayne King) open the show with songs by Roy Orbison and others,” Fountain said.

Tickets are $30 and $35 and can be purchased online at texasoprytheater.com, at the box office or by calling 817-341-1000.
