Sales tax revenue up from last year

By JUDY SHERIDAN

State sales tax revenue in November was $2.41 billion, up 2.8 percent compared to November 2012, according to Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.

“State sales tax revenue continues to grow at a moderate pace as expected,” Combs said. “Sales tax collections have increased for 44 consecutive months. Revenue from sectors such as wholesale trade, services industries and restaurants contributed to the most recent increase.”

Combs will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their December local sales tax allocations totaling $579.6 million, up 5 percent compared to December 2012.

The sales tax figures reflect October sales reported by monthly tax filers.

In Parker County, December 2013 payments from the state were 1.8 percent higher — $1,294,316 compared with $1,271,680 in 2012.

Willow Park showed the biggest gain — a 92.5 percent increase from $52,426 to $100,920 — and Springtown the biggest loss — a 41.9 percent decrease from $134,075 to $77,942.

Aledo was up 24.3 percent with the receipt of $40,680, compared with a December 2012 payment of $32,716.

When year-to-date sales tax payments are compared with last year’s payments, Parker County as a whole is up 3.3 percent, from $15,103,405 in 2012 to $15,598,135 in 2013; with the biggest increases in Annetta North, 58.8 percent — from $14,342 to $22,779; Annetta South, 24 percent — from $11,129 to $13,804; and Annetta, 22.5 percent — from $23,986 to $29,382.

Three Parker County cities show decreases in year-to-date payments.

Springtown shows a 9 percent decrease, receiving $896,910 in 2013 versus $986,034 in 2012; followed by a 1.7 percent decrease for Cool, from $17,084 in 2012 to $16,799 in 2013; and a 0.5 percent decrease for Sanctuary, from $13,487 in 2012 to $13,416 in 2013.

Aledo’s year-to-date figures reflect a 5.4 percent increase, from $441,262 in 2012 to $464,908 in 2013.
