Icy conditions Sunday evening are believed to have led to a wreck causing the death of a woman and serious injuries to two adults and three young children.

A 2002 Nissan Xterra SUV was traveling westbound on Farm-to-Market Road 1885 about a mile west of Farm-to-Market Road 920 around 5:30 p.m. when the driver of the SUV encountered a slick spot on the road and lost control, according to DPS Senior Trooper Gary Rozzell. The SUV reportedly crossed into the eastbound lane, striking a 2005 Saturn car traveling eastbound.

Maria Najar-Aguilar, 39, of Las Vegas, a passenger in the Saturn, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled her death an accident due to blunt force trauma of the chest.

Danna Leary, 34, the driver of the SUV, and Aurelia Najar, 34, the driver of the car, were taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital with serious injuries, according to DPS.

Three children who were riding in the car, ages 3, 9 and 10, were taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth with serious injuries.
