PARKER COUNTY —
A Parker County couple lost their home Wednesday afternoon after firefighters found the house on fire.
Firefighters initially responded to the blaze in the 100 block of High Ridge Drive north of Weatherford when they saw a column of smoke and went to investigate around 12:30 p.m., ESD No. 1 Chief Eric Vinson said.
While en route, the column of smoke changed, indicating the fire was not just a brush fire and the call was upgraded to a structure fire, according to Vinson.
Because the house was in a wooded area not visible from the roadway, the fire was difficult to locate, Vinson said.
The structure was totally involved when firefighters arrived on scene.
Firefighters from Silver Creek, La Junta, Hudson Oaks, Willow Park and Aledo stations responded to the two-alarm fire that destroyed the double-wide mobile home and small addition.
Firefighters were able to do what could for them but it was a tragic loss for the family, Vinson said.
Though the Red Cross was called to the scene, the family made other arrangements, according to firefighters.
Information on the cause of the fire was not immediately available Wednesday afternoon from the Parker County Fire Marshal’s Office.
