RWMH ribbon cutting coming soon

By JUDY SHERIDAN

Parker County officials will mark the completion of the Interstate 20 interchange, the fifth and final phase of the Ric Williamson Memorial Highway, with a ribbon cutting tentatively set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 22.

“We poured the concrete [for the deck of the new bridge] and that’s all done, and everything’s looking good,” County Judge Mark Riley said during commissioners’ court Monday. “[Contractors] think that, barring any unforseen weather issues, they will be ready to roll.”

According to the most recent change order, the scheduled date is a month ahead of the May 28 contract completion date, with the revised contract amount about $178,000 less than the original contract amount of about $8.5 million.

In other action, the court:

• Approved readvertising the recycling part of a bid for waste/trash disposal. One vendor requested a steep price increase and another had billing and rebate issues, staff said. Precinct No. 1 Commissioner George Conley said dozens of residents recycle at his precinct barn every day. Precinct No. 2 had at least two recycling pickups from their barn per month, purchasing agent Deena Nichols said, at a cost to the county of $120/pickup.

• Authorized renewing volunteer fire insurance while stipulating the county attorney assess the amount of coverage needed and renegotiate the premium. The questions center on the amount of workers’ compensation and other insurance coverage being provided by emergency services districts. Currently the county’s premium is about $12,000.
