A Parker County grand jury Thursday indicted a woman accused of starting a fire that destroyed her ex-boyfriend’s house in July.

Amanda Nicole Clary, 26, was indicted on a second-degree felony charge of arson.

A fire gutted a single-story, brick home in the 2400 block of Bettis Drive south of Azle shortly before 10 p.m. July 4 as the homeowner was in Fort Worth watching fireworks. Investigators determined the fire started on a wooden deck at the back of the home.

Clary texted the homeowner and told him that she had burned his new girlfriend’s clothes and that she was sorry, according to the Parker County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Clary, who had recently moved out, reportedly found the woman’s clothes, soaked them in an accelerant and set fire to clothing on the wooden deck, according to an investigator.

“Clary stated that she intentionally set fire to the clothing that didn’t belong to her on the wooden deck but didn’t mean to burn the house down,” Assistant Fire Marshal Frank Watson wrote in a probable cause affidavit.
