Toddler's call for help leads to mom's arrest

Parker County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Springtown woman Friday after responding to a call in the 300 block of Young Road.

Sheriff Larry Fowler said a 911 caller reported a female was passed out inside a Dodge pickup truck with a small child inside the vehicle.

A family member arrived at the scene and reported the toddler called her from her mother’s cell phone and gave her directions to her location because “momma was sleeping and they were on the side of the road.”

The family member immediately drove to the scene.

The family member reported the truck’s engine was running and it was in gear as the female driver was leaning over the console of the truck with her foot on the brake pedal. The witness repeatedly shook the woman in an attempt to wake her up and called the sheriff’s office to report the incident.

Deputies arrived on scene and described the driver as “in a daze.”

Paramedics provided treatment to the woman, who was later medically released at the scene.

The driver told deputies she was under the influence of illegally obtained prescription narcotics and synthetic cannabinoid, known as “K2.” She did not remember driving to the location where she was found. She reportedly said she could not explain to deputies why she was in the middle of the road and she did not remember passing out.

Deputies said they discovered drug paraphernalia inside the driver’s visor of the truck along with a package containing three grams of suspected K2.

Alicia Pruitt, 24, was taken into custody. Deputies booked Pruitt into the Parker County Jail, charging her with public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. She was released Saturday on bonds totaling $1,234.

Fowler said the toddler was placed in the custody of family members.
