First Monday fans will have a chance to get some of their holiday shopping done a bit earlier than planned this weekend.
Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the monthly Weatherford event will be moved to this Friday through Sunday, Nov. 22-24. Times will remain the same from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Monday grounds on Santa Fe Drive.
Karen King with First Monday said after overwhelming support from the First Monday vendors, it was decided to make the switch. The announcement was made last month at a city council meeting and social media has been used to alert people of the switch, which is being made for the first time ever, King said.
The weekend switch isn’t expected to hurt the number of vendors.
“We average around 200-250 vendors every month and they all say they’re coming,” King said. “They’ve taken rain out of the forecast, so that’s always good.”
King said there is still room for the always anticipated walk-in vendors, which average about 40 to 60 per month. Many of the walk-in vendors this time of year are the so-called “holiday vendors,” which bring items such as wreaths and other holiday crafts.
King said this weekend is the perfect time to come out and see some of the new amenities at Heritage Park, including the restroom building and the paved walkways to allow for easier movement around the grounds. A new food court area allows people to rest and relax or get their food and continue shopping. King said even more vendors are planned in the new year.
“The days are much brighter for First Monday, as we’ve had a renewed interest in the event in recent months,” King said. “Our crowds are bigger. We have more vendors coming out. It’s been really great.”
