Shelter offers pet adoption specials to help reduce numbers

By BRIAN SMITH

An recent influx of cats has the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter full of felines.

The facility has a couple of promotions trying to ease the problem.

Through the month of June, any child that received all A’s and B’s on their report card or received perfect attendance at the end of the year is eligible for an adoption for just $25, a deep discount over the normal $75 fee for cats and kittens.

All adoptions include the spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, dewormer and a microchip.

While trying to show their canine friends some love as well, the shelter is offering a Father’s Day special. Anytime through Sunday, all dog adoption fees are just $25. Fathers need not be present to take advantage of the special.

Interim Director of Animal Services Dustin Deel said the normal adoption fee for a dog ranges from $90 to $100. All adoptions include the above services as well.

Deel said he is still working on a Name Your Own Price promotion for cats and a date will be announced soon. Deel mentioned the idea at a shelter advisory committee meeting last week.

Pets can be viewed online at www.weatherfordtx.gov/animals. The shelter can be contacted at 817-598-4111 with any questions.
