Earnest Tubb tribute show Saturday at Texas Opry

Last Saturday at Texas Opry Theater it was a tribute to Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline. This Saturday it is The Official Ernest Tubb Tribute Show that will take the stage, starring Glenn Douglas Tubb and Dottie Snow Tubb.

The show is a two-hour musical journey through the life and music of one of the greatest country music stars of all times, Ernest Tubb. Showtime is 3 p.m. Saturday and will feature Texas Opry Theater’s house band, The Amazing Made in Texas Showtime Band, performing as The Texas Troubadours. To purchase tickets online, go to texasoprytheater.com. Tickets are also available at the theater, located at 315 York Ave. in downtown Weatherford.

Grand Old Opry legend Ernest Tubb founded the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree at The Texas Troubadour Theater in Nashville, Tenn. It was broadcast live on WSM Radio. The Midnight Jamboree is the second longest running radio show in America. Single-handedly, Tubb was responsible for the success of more artists and legendary careers than any other artist of the last several decades.

Glenn Douglas Tubb has inherited a great deal of his Uncle Ernest’s talent and love of country music. Glenn Tubb had his first song recorded in 1952 by his famous uncle. Since that time, he has had more than 200 songs recorded by artists in all fields of music such as Johnny Cash, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Bob Dylan, Dwight Yoakam, Anne Murray, Charlie Pride, Joe Tex, The Kentucky Headhunters, Tennessee Ernie, Nora Jones and others. One of his songs, “Skip A Rope,” earned a Grammy nomination. He also penned one of Johnny Cash’s early hits, “Home Of The Blues,” which was featured in the film “The Man In Black.” He also wrote “Two Story House” for George Jones and Tammy Wynette. In the 1950s, he was a recording artist for Dot and Decca records and later for the MGM and Mercury labels.
