Deputies spike fleeing suspect’s tires

A man who reportedly fled deputies at a high rate of speed south of Weatherford early Sunday morning was arrested after his vehicle’s tires were spiked.

Speeds reached up to 85 mph during the pursuit that began when a deputy attempted to stop a 2002 Ford Escape northbound on Tin Top Road around 1 a.m. after reportedly observing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

After the Ford Escape turned left at a cafe parking lot near the intersection of Bethel Road, the pursuit continued northbound on Bethel Road.

The vehicle crossed the center line, entering the opposite lane of traffic during the high speed pursuit, according to the sheriff’s office.

Other deputies deployed road spikes on Bethel Road near Lution Drive, which flattened the Escape tires and made the vehicle inoperable about a mile from Lution Drive, the sheriff’s office reported.

The driver then fled on foot and attempted to jump over a nearby fence but was apprehended by deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.

Geovani Osiel Vasquez Martinez, 21, of Fort Worth, was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.

Jail records show Martinez remained in the Parker County Jail Monday night where he is also being held on an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement detainer.
