UPDATE: Husband of woman found dead in freezer arrested on unrelated violation

By LIBBY CLUETT | Mineral Wells Index

Mineral Wells Police on Friday arrested Cecil Ray Huddleston, 49, on a blue warrant – violation of parole – and booked him into Palo Pinto County Jail.

Police arrested him at his home on S.E. 19th Street – the location where the body of his wife, Shannon Sheri Herrin, 39, was discovered in the freezer by her son Thursday evening.

MWPD Chief Dean Sullivan said Friday's arrest was unrelated to the discovery of his wife's body. Huddleston's arrest history obtained by the Mineral Wells Index showed a number of previous arrests, many on charges of possession of a controlled substance.

Sullivan said the preliminary autopsy showed “no evident signs of trauma. In looking at information from the crime scene and articles gathered under a search warrant, it does not appear there was any foul play. But, the investigation is ongoing.”

After receiving a call at 6:28 p.m. Thursday, Mineral Wells Police Department officers went to Huddleston's residence, where Herrin's son and possibly two other young adults found her body in a large, chest-type freezer, Sullivan said. Sources said the “kids” were looking for food, possibly for a cook out.

Sullivan said police confirmed the report and secured the house, separating witnesses. Meanwhile, he said “detectives prepared and secured a search warrant to give us the legal authority to go in and search.”

When the Index went to the home around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night the house was taped off and police were posted at all corners of the yard. Also assisting MWPD on the scene were members of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Ranger Tony Bradford and District Attorney Mike Burns. Sullivan said Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Bobby Hart pronounced the woman deceased.

He said Bradford and MWPD detectives conducted a crime-scene process and transferred the woman’s body to Dallas for autopsy.

The Index will continue to follow up on this story as more details come forth.
