A man who reportedly told police he took an ambulance from the hospital because he wanted to go home, didn’t get far down the road Thursday night before police caught him.

Weatherford police received a report around 11:30 p.m. Thursday that a man had just stolen a LifeCare ambulance from Weatherford Regional Medical Center. A responding officer reported observing an ambulance traveling southbound on Santa Fe Drive and activated his lights and sirens, pulling over the ambulance in the 1300 block of Santa Fe.

The driver, later identified as 40-year-old Jason Fredric Christiansen, obeyed commands to exit the vehicle, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Police reported Christiansen said he was ready to go home when asked about the incident.

Asked why he took the ambulance, Christiansen reportedly told the officer, “It’s better than walking.”

Christiansen was charged with theft of property, more than $100,000, less than $200,000, a second-degree felony, and booked into the Parker County Jail.

He was released the following morning on $15,000 bond, according to jail records.
