Teen struck by vehicle on Interstate 20

By CHRISTIN COYNE

WILLOW PARK – A teenager was transported Wednesday afternoon to a Fort Worth hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was hit on Interstate 20.

The young Willow Park resident was crossing the eastbound lanes, east of the Mikus Road exit, on foot from the south side of the highway toward the median around 3:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle in the outside lane, according to Willow Park Police Chief Brad Johnson. The teen’s name was not released Wednesday.

CPR was started before emergency responders arrived on scene, Johnson said.

The teen was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth by ground ambulance and his condition was unknown Wednesday evening.

“Why he was trying to cross the road, we don’t know that either,” Johnson said.

The vehicle driver stopped immediately and remained on scene.

There was no indication of any wrong-doing on the driver’s part, according to police.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 were shut down for nearly an hour because of a fairly substantial debris field, Johnson said. Traffic was backed up past the Bankhead Road exit.

Additional details were not immediately available Wednesday evening.
