The United Way of Parker County is one of the biggest resources for community health and human services programs. On Friday, the organization will host its second-largest fundraiser, the third annual Compassion with Fashion, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Central Christian Church.

“It’s not as large as our Ride United [bike ride fundraiser] but it’s second up and a huge contributor to our campaign,” United Way director Oleta Parker said.

Proceeds from the event will benefit at least 12 programs throughout Parker County — Cancer Care Services, CASA, Center of Hope, CPS, Crossroads Youth Ministry, Freedom House, Manna, Headstart, Kingdom Smiles, the Parker County Committee on Aging, Red Cross of Parker County and Texas Neighborhood Services.

“All of the ticket sales go into a general fund, which is then divided up among those organizations to benefit Parker County,” Parker said.

Compassion with Fashion will include a fashion show, with 10 models showing off outfits and accessories from 10 merchants. United Way campaign chair Bob Tallman will DJ the event.

Ticket holders can enjoy a lunch, catered by Fish Creek and Sundance Club, as well as fashion and a silent auction.

“We will take silent auctions if anyone wants to donate,” Parker said. “We are asking for items with a $50 retail or above and we can make arrangements to pick it up, or they can drop it by our offices on Austin Avenue.”

The cutoff for auction items is Wednesday.

Because of the success of the last two events, (both were sold out), United Way changed the venue to offer even more people a chance to attend the event.

“We moved the venue to Central Christian Church this year, hoping to increase the capacity. We went from having 170 seats to 240,” Parker said. “We were hoping to have sold out by now, but we do have about 100 seats left.”

Tickets are $45 per person or $320 for a table of eight. To purchase, call 817-596-5986.

“We want people to know that this is not just a woman’s thing,” Parker said. “This is just in time for Valentine’s Day, so you can get a ticket for your employees, co-workers, church members, whomever.”
