Pets Alive sponsoring Valentine’s food drive

By BRIAN SMITH

Parker County Pets Alive is hoping county residents “Have a Heart for Homeless Pets” during this Valentine’s season.

The organization is sponsoring its second annual food drive through Feb. 28, according to PCPA President LeeAnn Adams. Last year, almost 1,000 pounds of food was raised and donated to Center of Hope.

This year, all food and pet supplies raised will be donated to the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter and go directly to animals in need, Adams said. A number of businesses are helping out this year in taking donations, some offering special deals to customers who make donations at their businesses.

“People want to support the drive,” Adams said. “Why not support someone who supports the community?”

Some of the businesses offering customer deals with a donation include:

• Wright Chiropractic is offering a free consultation and exam for new patients and a 15-minute aqua massage for existing patients with a donation.

• Doss Heritage and Cultural Center is offering free admission with a donation.

• Dog Day Afternoon Spa is offering a pound for pound match for all donations at their business.

• Dillard Feed and Seed will also match all donation purchases.

Other businesses accepting donations include Teskey’s, Brookshire’s in Weatherford, Fido & Friends, All About Rehab and Hair Saloon.

PCPA is coming off a successful volunteer fair for both the shelter and the three-person organization last week. Adams said the shelter itself needs volunteers for all types of positions, including filing and other administrative duties, walking and grooming animals and also transportation to and from foster homes or area shelters. Adams said two deaf puppies were recently transported to Ohio by someone who was heading north.

Pets Alive, on the other hand, can use help with marketing and advertising the organization, Adams said. Anyone willing to help at the shelter can stop by the location, 403 Hickory Drive, in Weatherford, or by calling 817-598-4111.

Anyone wishing to offer services for Pets Alive can contact Adams herself by messaging the group’s Facebook page.
