Candidate’s degree claims questioned

Martin declines to list schools conferring his bachelor’s, three post-grad diplomas

By CHRISTIN COYNE

Republican candidate for Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Greg Martin claims to hold a bachelor’s, MBA, law and doctorate degrees.

Where he obtained those degrees he is not willing to say.

Martin, 53, chief executive officer of Mancuso Martin Entertainment and a division director for a private investigation company registered in Arizona, told the Weatherford Democrat that he has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing, an MBA in executive management, a Juris Doctor degree, and a PhD.

He was asked to name the schools conferring those degrees, but Martin’s refusal to do so makes it impossible to verify his claims.

“Due to the fact that I am a former Republican Presidential Candidate and the nature of the work I do with Maverick Investigations as well as the problem of identity theft; I, choose not to release all my education records,” Martin said in an email response to the WD. “I guess President Obama and I do agree on one thing. LOL”

Martin did provide specific details of some other post-high school level education, saying he attended Tarrant County College from 1985-87 and graduated from the Hollywood Film Institute in 2007.

The Democrat was able to verify the higher education background cited by the three other candidates for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3.

Anne Hollis, Dusty Vinson, and Jerry Hataway, all certified peace officers, each received basic law enforcement academy training at Tarrant or Weatherford colleges and hundreds of hours of subsequent peace officer training, and in Vinson’s case, training from the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association records from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement confirm.

Howard Payne University also confirmed that Vinson was previously enrolled at the school, while Hataway, who obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington in August 2001, provided documentation of his diploma and school transcripts.
