Weatherford Independent School District trustees moved forward Thursday to place wastewater easement in several spots along the wastewater line surrounding the Ninth Grade Center.
Otherwise known as the Black Warrior Creek Sanitary Sewer, which is owned by the City of Weatherford, the area needs to be replaced, according to City of Weatherford Director of Water Utilities James Hotopp, who addressed the board.
The project would cover about 8,400 feet of wastewater lines with new easement surrounding the campus, at an estimated cost of $1.4 million.
Hotopp expressed concerns over where some of the existing wastewater lines lie, including one segment that runs beneath the left field side of the high school’s baseball field, as well as several areas in close proximity to the bus barn, CTE building, oak trees and tennis courts.
In order to deal with those concerns, Hotopp said the city would expand the lines to go beyond the outfield fence and further out from buildings.
“If the district agrees, we would include a clause in the contract guaranteeing the number of days before completion,” Hotopp said. “We would also make sure the timing would occur during the summer, so as not to disrupt classes.”
