Two wastewater utility employees were given the Mayor’s Meritorious Service Awards from the City of Weatherford during Tuesday night’s city council meeting for aiding a contractor who was having a heart attack.

On Oct. 28, Kyle Capp, a light equipment operator, and Chad Martin, a maintenance worker, were working on a job site on Santa Fe Drive when the pair noticed a man having a heart attack, according to Director of Wastewater Utilities James Hotopp. Both rendered first aid to the unconscious man until emergency medical staff arrived.

“We often think on how we would respond to someone in their moment of need,” Hotopp told the council. “Without hesitation they administered CPR and first aid to the contractor. The way the two men responded showed courage and character and represented the City of Weatherford in the highest standard.”

Capp has been with the city since November 2010 with Martin joining the city in November 2012.

In other activity, Interim Parks and Recreation Director Shannon Goodman recognized five residences for the quarterly Yards of the Month program. Each home represents an area of the city plus the lake area.
