Brock-area ambulance service a go

Hospital district hires firm to begin process of building ambulance station serving SW Parker County

BROCK – Moving past a flap between ESD No. 9, the Parker County Hospital District last week took another step toward building an ambulance station to serve Brock and other parts of western Parker County.

PCHD had been planning to place an ambulance station in the Brock area, but temporarily delayed those plans when it learned officials with ESD No. 9, a taxing entity responsible for providing fire and emergency services to southwest Parker County, was considering bringing in a competing ambulance service.

PCHD’s directors last week approved hiring Stuckey Architects at a cost of $14,300 to do civil engineering and other pre-construction project work.

“We need an architectural or engineering firm to draw some plans so these [construction companies] can bid apples to apples in what they are going to build,” PCHD CEO Randall Young said. “[They will] do a soil study, get a survey done, work with TxDOT so we can get an entrance onto those two roads, the Brock spur and [Farm-to-Market Road] 1189.”

Young said he called three engineering or architect firms, and Stuckey Architects and The Barron Companies submitted bids that were presented to the board of directors

The district asked for a bid covering the civil engineering part of the job, an erosion control study, assistance with the TxDOT drive approach approval, minimal landscape design, irrigation design and construction administration, according to Young, who said the TxDOT application process is complicated because the district wants to create a new drive between the roadways.

“There is a quite a price difference between the two [bids],” Young said.

Stuckey Architects proposed to do the project for $14,300, including a survey of the land.

A survey needs to be done, according to Young, who said the district has been using a rough plat, especially if the board wants to build a second building on the land to lease.
