Hudson Oaks OKs utility transfer

Weatherford Democrat

HUDSON OAKS — Hudson Oaks City Council member approved an amendment to the water and sewer utility agreement with the town of Annetta that will relieve the city of operation responsibilities.

The amendment ends the current contract on Sept. 30, 2014 and allows for the full transition of water and sewer operations to Annetta officials at that time. According to a staff report, Annetta officials have begun to take “significant steps” in preparing for the transition by setting up employee benefits and creating employment policies.

Hudson Oaks has been operating the Deer Creek water and wastewater system for Annetta since the smaller city purchased the utility system in October 2010. In March 2012, the contract was amended to adjust contract compensation from Annetta and transfer billing responsibilities.

During the 10-minute regular session, the city council also approved a $14,146 addendum to the municipal-county contract for road repair services.

The addendum, which will be paid for out of street maintenance funding approved in the fiscal year 2014 budget, provides for approximately 1,300 square yards of patching repairs in the Red Eagle subdivision on Red Eagle Trail and Gray Wolf Trail.

Inadequate subgrade stability on portions of these streets has drawn concern from city staff, particularly in areas over utility lines, according to a staff report. Failure of the road in the locations is severe enough for crews to fix before the damage spreads.

A more detailed analysis will take place this spring for additional repair projects.

The council also approved the purchase of two public works trucks to replace 2004 and 2007 trucks at a combined cost of just more than $52,700. Both Ford F-250 trucks will be purchased from Southwest Ford, which provided the low bid.

Councilmembers also approved cancelling the December meeting, which would fall the day after Christmas. The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 23.
