Clark Gardens preparing for spring festival

Explore, experience and discover ‘The Art of Living … Texas Style’

— Mark your calendars for April 13th-14th for the Clark Gardens Botanical Park’s Spring Festival’s “The Art of Living … Texas Style.”

The bluebonnets are in full bloom and the roses, irises and poppies are right behind. For two days, you can experience Texas wine, Texas cheese, art, music, vendors, education stations, model trains, car and motorcycle shows while enjoying 35 acres of gardens.

Spring Festival 2013, presented by State Bank Mineral Wells, Possum Kingdom and Weatherford, will have activities to please everyone. The East Tent hosts the wine, cheese and art. Three Texas wineries, Barking Rocks Winery in Granbury, Calais Winery in Dallas and Brushy Creek Vineyards and Winery in Alvord, will be offering some of their great wines for tasting and purchasing.

As you enjoy the wine, sample delicious cheese from award-winning local Texas artesian cheese makers, Veldhuizen Cheese Shoppe, El Camino de Las Cabras and Brazos Valley Cheese. Along with Texas Wine and Cheese in the East Tent you will discover artwork including jewelry, canvas art, and fabric art by area artists.

Additional activities include the car show (Saturday), motorcycle show (Sunday), model train show (including visiting train clubs North Texas T-Trak Modular Railroad Club and North Texas Garden Club Railroad Club, and children’s activities including a puppet show, face painting and balloon animals.

Explore the education stations and learn about container gardening, bee keeping, tree identification and pruning, composting, and Earth-kind roses and practices. To make sure you are healthy have your blood pressure taken by Palo Pinto General Hospital.

If all this activity makes you too tired or you just need a nap after the wine tasting, hop on the trackless train. If shopping is your thing … there will be vendors offering products for the most discerning shopper.

As you enjoy the gardens a full line up of musical entertainment will be available along with food options from Taxi BBQ, Brazos Market and Bistro, Juliebeans Icecream and Venue 2:17.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults; $7 for children ages 5-12; free for children ages 4 and under. There is no charge for Clark Garden members; additional fees for wine tasting and trackless train. No rainy day, discount passes or reciprocal memberships honored during festival days.

The festival times are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, the 13th, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, the 14th. The car show is 1-4 p.m. Saturday and the motorcycle show is 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday.
